Siggi Wernik on the role of BIM in the planning process

December 2011Siggi Wernik on the role of BIM in the planning process

In the December issue of Graphisoft News, Siggi Wernik, Chairman of buildingSMART e.V., talks about the use of BIM (Building Information Modeling) by Léon Wohlhage Wernik Architekten and its general application in Germany. Unlike the USA and Scandinavia, BIM is not yet standard planning practice in this country, leaving already existent potential untapped.

Yet the benefits are obvious: By linking the design to building data such as construction costs, material requirements and life cycle assessment using a virtual building model, friction losses between the expert planners can be minimised and planning and operative security can be enhanced. That means turning away from the standard linear planning process in future and requires new performance and remuneration systems.
